A Little Update #1

As I've been quite busy lately I thought I would give you all a small update! I like to spend time researching and finding interesting resources for my blog posts, but didn't want to rush this to post in time for today. I have a number of ideas for some great future blog posts on varying topics which I'm excited to get started on!

At the end of May an article that I wrote was published in Front Line Genomics magazine - I was really proud of how the article turned out as I had taken time to write this over Christmas. I had also attended the FLG conference previously where top speakers and professors attended, so to have my article published among esteemed scientists was fantastic for me.

A few weeks ago I was asked by the editor of the Biochemist Blog (The Biochemical Society) if I would like to contribute a post to the new blog. Obviously, I jumped at the chance, and this week my post was published and I have received some great feedback! The great thing about the Biochemist Blog is they are always looking or contributors and are extremely approachable, so get in touch if you would like to work with them!

As well as these articles, I should have another in the pipeline which is exciting! As an aspiring science writer, getting my work published really helps to motivate me during my PhD.

I'd also like to thank everyone who reads my blog regularly, and all those on twitter helping me to #scicomm - my blog views and twitter followers are steadily going up, and it is amazing to hear positive feedback, as well as to see views coming from other parts of the world! Considering that I only started regularly blogging and tweeting in February 2017, I'm so happy with how my little blog is progressing!

PhD-wise, work has gone up a gear since my transfer and I'm trying desperately to get experiments to work. So, if I am quiet on social media for a few days, this is probably why! I actually didn't realise when I started blogging, but blogging is hard. Researching and writing good quality posts and maintaining various social media platforms takes time, and if you are doing a full time PhD like me, some of this time comes from your personal down time.

As always, any collaborations are welcome and if you have any suggestions for articles, or would like to guest post, anyone is welcome.

Have a good day all :)
